(ORANGE COUNTY) - A 6-year-old California girl who had been abducted by her mother on January 3 was found by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
According to Orange County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Bill Fulllington, deputies and Indiana State Police troopers went to a home on Oak Grove Road in rural Orange County and found the mother and child.
On January 3 a Sacramento County court awarded custody of the child to the father and ordered Abrielle Roberson to turn the child over to the father.
However Roberson fled the area with the girl. Authorities in California contacted Orange County officers with information that Roberson and the child, who were driving a 1976 Chrysler Cordoba.
Police found the vehicle at a home on Oak Grove Road and obtained a search warrant. When officers served the warrant, they found the missing child and arrested Roberson on charges of detention of a minor child with intent to conceal from legal custody.
Roberson is being held at the Orange County Jail and is awaiting extradition to California where she will be held on a $100,000 bond.
The girl was placed in protective custody of the Indiana Department of Child Protective Services until the father can arrive from California to pick her up.
Also arrested at the home was Jeremiah Roberson, who had an outstanding Clinton County warrant for failure to appear.
