(BEDFORD) - Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis and city officials announced the completion of the Plaza Drive North project in early February.
The opening of the new artery, spanning from 16th Street north to John Williams Boulevard, eased traffic congestion on the city's far west side. A few months later the roadway was dubbed Becky Skillman Way.
Plaza Drive South, the second and southern phase of the two-prong project, isn't expected to be completed until 2014.
Space site
The Lawrence County Space Board announced in April it had selected a site for the proposed Indiana Space Complex project. After considering six locations, LCSB President Rex Knight said the board decided on an 80-acre property known as Smith Farm just west of Ind. 37 on Dixie Highway. The property is accessible via Stevens Lane.
The most difficult challenge will be raising the funds to build and sustain the complex.
LIFE Celebrates 20 Years
In 2012 Lawrence InterFaith Endeavor celebrated its 25th year of helping local families. The nonprofit food pantry was also awarded a $50,000 grant for hunger relief from Walmart Foundation thanks to the efforts hardworking Walmart employees who volunteered hundreds of hours working to land the grant.
In December, LIFE's Fantasia celebrated its 20th birthday this year with tremendous trees, wonderful wreaths and outstanding ornaments. And the bidders were bountiful, surprising Fantasia organizers by bringing in $20,000.
