(BEDFORD) - Ally Pemberton, a student at Stalker Elementary School, and Libbie Holmes, a student at Oolitic Middle School - each defied odds in 2012.
Holmes, who is a freshman at Bedford North Lawrence, brought a gym full of students and parents to their feet when she walked across the gym floor, unaided, at her eighth-grade graduation.
Born with spina bifida, Libbie uses arm crutches or a walker, but she told her parents and school staff, that she wanted to walk without help. After months of working with teachers and therapists, Libbie accomplished her goal.
Ally Pemberton waited a long time for a new heart and last summer she got one.
Diagnosed with a heart defect in 2005, she didn't let her heart condition slow her down, even though she made multiple trips to Riley Hospital and the condition left her very tired.
Her Stalker classmates rallied around her, raising money for medical expenses.
