(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana University Police went to Indiana Memorial Union Saturday night after a report of a suspicious person.
The man was identified as Rick Crowder, who is homeless, and he has no connection to IU.
IUPD Chief Keith Cash says Crowder was following them around and there were rumors Crowder had a gun. But police say no weapon was found.
Officer Steffan Short found Crowder in a lounge and after approaching Crowder he became combative.
Crowder placed his hands in his jacket and when he refused to remove them, Short took Crowder to the floor, where he kicked Short in the face area.
Other officers arrived and escorted Crowder out of the Union building.
While taking Crowder from the building he screamed profanities and yelled he was injured.
Crowder was taken to the hospital where he was cleared for release, and was then taken to jail.
He was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, battery on a law enforcement officer and trespass.
Cash says no officers were injured during the altercation. There was no lock-down at the IMU during the incident.
