(WORTHINGTON) - Christopher Shawn Wade, 31, of Worthington, was arrested Monday afternoon after police were called about a domestic disturbance.
Anna Rochelle of the Greene County Daily World reports that Wade is facing two felony charges involving battery. Police say he's been convicted of domestic battery before - upon a pregnant woman, and the victim in that case is also the victim in the current case, only this time she was holding a baby when the battery allegedly occurred.
Town Marshal Don Richardson of the Worthington Police Department made the arrest after he arrived at Wade's apartment and talked to the victim. Richardson reported she had suffered pain with knots on both sides of her head, a knot on the top of her forehead area, deep redness to an ear and scratches on the back of her neck.
A call came in to the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 1:32 p.m. on Monday from an individual who reported an assault was taking place in Wade's apartment. When Richardson arrived on the scene, he said he overheard a couple of people talking outside the apartments saying they could hear yelling and screaming coming from Wade's apartment.
WPD Deputy Marshal J.R. Blazier also responded and when the officers entered the apartment, Wade allegedly told them there had been an argument and everything was fine. But Richardson said a woman was very upset and crying.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday, Wade had become upset because the woman was cooking while holding an infant the two have in common and he started smacking the woman in the chin. She smacked back, then while she was still holding the child, Wade allegedly grabbed her and shoved her head into a wall. The woman told Richardson that she was afraid she was going to drop the child. Wade also allegedly grabbed her by the neck.
Richardson reported another child was inside the residence but was asleep.
Wade was convicted in July 2012 of battery resulting in injury to a pregnant woman, a class C felony. He was sentenced, under the terms of a plea agreement, to four years with three of those years suspended and given credit for 128 days served at the time of sentencing.
Wade's bond was set at $9,000 surety or $900 cash when he was booked into jail.
When he appears in court for an initial hearing, he will be charged with three counts: Battery resulting in bodily injury, a class A misdemeanor; domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, a class D felony; and battery resulting in bodily injury with a prior conviction involving the same victim, a class D felony.
