(BEDFORD) - Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig received permission from the county council to hire at full time court security officer and to fill a part-time dispatcher position Tuesday night.
Craig also asked to use $4,565 from drug seizure money to pay for the department's new drug dog. The council approved the request.
In other business:
Commissioner Bill Spreen updated the commissioners on renovations at the courthouse. The commissioners have decided to allow Architura to draw some drawings for repairs the courthouse's windows and heating and cooling system.
"This will give us some real hard numbers so we can decide what we can and can't do," Spreen says. "We are looking at 2 to 3 options to bring the costs down and thinking about not doing the basement windows to save some money."
Architura's Michael Conley estimated the cost at $1.9 million dollars, but that number could decrease after the drawings are completed.
Conley estimated it could take up to 2 years to complete the project.
* Prosecutor Michelle Woodward asked permission to transfer $3,942 from pretrial diversion to victim assistance fund to pay an employee's salary.
* Auditor Jody Edwards requested $5,154 to purchase a new copier from Bedford Office Supply.
* Rex Knight, of SIDC, provided the council information packets about the organization. He also provided the council with an update and strategy report on the Indiana Space Complex.
