(COLUMBUS) - More than 1,000 employees from the Cummins Tech Center had to be evacuated Thursday afternoon after a fire erupted in a test cell
The Republic reports that Columbus firefighters received the initial report of the fire at 2:13 p.m. When they arrived at the building, located at 1900 McKinley Ave., workers were already standing in the parking lot in front of the front gate and along a grassy hill near the intersection of McKinley Avenue and Pleasant Grove.
Wayne Eckerle, Cummins' vice president of research and technology, says the fire involved an engine in Test Cell 210.
Eckerle says it was really the smoke that caused the evacuation. He added no damage was reported and nobody was hurt.
