(LINTON) - Linton City Fire Department units battled a garage/car fire just off of State Road 54 West, behind Casey’s General Store Monday morning.
Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports the Monday fire was reported just before 6:30 a.m. and was reported by Gary Hoseman, who told firefighters that he was working on the front end of his vehicle in the garage, when the fire ignited.
"When we got there the garage was on fire. He (Hoseman) was working on it (the car). He was cutting a piece out of it with a torch," LFD Chief Brad Sparks said. "He said he caught something on fire there. There was a rubber boot around something and he couldn't get the flames put out and by the time he done that and got a hold of somebody, the car was fully engulfed inside the garage and it went from there."
Hoseman was renting the building from Scott McBride and Tom Bailey.
"The building is pretty well gutted. It's a block building so the blocks could probably be saved because the fire was mainly up high," Sparks said.
The car was also destroyed.
LFD had eight firefighters and several pumper tanker units at the scene. Wright Township Volunteer Fire Department provided a tanker truck and two firefighters.
Crews remained on the scene until 8:10 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
