(SEYMOUR) - A house fire in Seymour late Wednesday injured a woman and her 10-year-old son, both of whom made a rooftop escape with the help of police officers and firefighters.
The Seymour residents were treated locally and later flown to a Kentucky hospital early Thursday, authorities said. The fire remains under investigation.
Yvonne Colwell and her son, Cameron Perkins, were sitting on the front porch roof of the house at 513 E. Fourth St. awaiting help when police arrived at the scene, Seymour Fire Chief Brad Lucas said.
"They evacuated themselves through an upstairs window just above the porch," Lucas said Thursday. He was unsure whether they had tried to flee downstairs only to be turned back by fire.
The fire is thought to have started on the home's first floor.
