Former Linton Man Killed Along Illinois Highway

(WESTPORT, ILL.) - A 28-year-old former Linton man was killed Tuesday morning when he was reportedly struck by a passing vehicle near Westport, ll.

Nick Schneider of the Greene County Daily World reports that Aaron James Hineman, of Palestine, Ill., died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Details of the accident are not being released by the Lawrence County, Ill., Sheriff's Department. Information about the investigation is expected to be made available about mid-day on Thursday, according to a sheriff's department dispatcher.

A report from the Lawrenceville Daily Record confirms the pedestrian accident happened on Illinois 33, about one mile north of Westport, located across the Wabash River from Vincennes.

Hineman, who served in the United States Army during Operation Iraqi Freedom, was a second-year student at Vincennes University, where he was studying to be a machinist.
He was honorably discharged from the Army in 2006 and had worked in farming until deciding to return to school.

Hineman was a member of the Worthington VFW, Lyons and Worthington American Legion Posts, and the AmVets in Illinois.

Among his survivors are his mother, Jean Hineman, of Worthington, and his father and step-mother, Jeff and Tena Hineman of Dugger.

Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton is handling the arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 p.m., and Monday from noon until the time of service.

The service will be at 2 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
