Heltonville Man Injured After Falling Asleep While Driving

(HELTONVILLE) - A Heltonville man was injured after police say he fell asleep and crashed his 2009 Kia Sportage Monday afternoon.

According to a Lawrence County Police report, 63-year-old Michael Turner, was traveling east on Ind. 58, about a mile east of Todd Lane when he fell asleep.

Turner was traveling west on Ind. 58 when his Kia hit a concrete barrier at a right angle, then rolled into a utility pole and then rolled down the embankment into the creek bed before coming to a stop facing northeast.

Turner tested negative for alcohol use.

Turner suffered pain to his arm and was out of his vehicle and being treated by Pleasant Run Volunteer Fire Department first responders when police arrived.

He was taken by an IU Health ambulance to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital for treatment.
