(BEDFORD) - As Valentine’s Day approaches, local florists are partnering with the Hoosier Hills chapter of the American Red Cross to raise money for local disaster relief.
According to Rochelle Berwick, chapter manager, for each dozen roses sold at Bailey's Flowers and Gifts, Flowers for You by Tarvers and West End Flower Shop, all in Bedford, as well as at the Orleans Flower Shop, Wininger's Floral in French Lick, Chastain's Flowers and Gifts in Shoals and Laurie's Flowers in Loogootee,
$1 will be donated to the Hoosier Hills chapter for disaster relief to help families in Lawrence, Orange and Martin counties.
Single-family home fires are the most frequent disasters that the Red Cross responds to around the county and across the globe. In 2012, the Hoosier Hills Chapter provided emergency assistance to 30 families and responded to two multiple-family fires.
"We provide temporary shelter, food and clothing due to personal losses caused by fire, flood, storms or other disasters," Berwick noted.
