(SALEM) - An old-fashioned, wind-up merry-go-round and pony rides, both aimed at the younger set, have been added to the list of activities for the 22nd Annual Maple Syrup Festival, which takes place at Mike and Leane Goering’s farm, 321 N. Garrison Hollow Road.
Marcia Walker of the Leader-Democrat reports that the festival is set for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, Feb. 23 and 24 and March 2 and 3.
For older children and adults, an "adventure tour" has been added, a more in-depth tour that will take visitors to the back of the sugar bush (the woods where trees are tapped for sugar water). This tour will be offered three times each day. Shorter tours will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Almost 50 vendors plan on attending offering a variety of wares including rugs, soap, wooden toys, knitted items, candles, quilts, pottery, jewelry and walking sticks.
Various musical groups will perform each day, a few include the Corydon Duclimer Society, Maple Valley Bluegrass, James White and Deer Creek, Fiddle Tales and the Grandview Junction Bluegrass Gospel Band.
Of course, a highlight of the festival is the food, most of which
includes that special ingredient, maple syrup. Pancakes, waffles, chicken, pork chop and pulled pork dinners are all on the menu. Pancakes and waffles are served all day; dinners are served from noon to 5 p.m. or until sold out.
Maple syrup will also be available for purchase at the Sugar Store, along with maple candy, maple cream and maple cotton candy.

There is no admission charge and most activities are free. Festival-goers are advised to dress for the weather.
