(SALEM) - The 22nd Annual Maple Syrup Festival continues this weekend at the home of Mike and Leane Goering, 321 N. Garrison Hollow Road. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Among the many activities are tours of the sugarbush, tractor rides, pony rides, children's activities and demonstrations of pioneer and Native American syrup making.
There will be a number of vendors offering a variety of wares including handmade soap, jewelry, candles, pottery, wooden flutes, quilts and wooden toys.
New this year is a longer, hands-on tour, the Adventure Tour, that takes visitors to the very back of the sugarbush (woods) where they will actually help with the sap collection process. The tour, led by Caleb Goering, is recommended for children over age 8; the cost is $10 for adults or $5 for those under 18. Adventure tours are given three times a day at 10 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Pancakes and waffles are served all day; chicken, pork chop or pulled pork dinners are sold from noon to 5 p.m. or until sold out. Fresh maple syrup, maple candy and maple home-baked goods are available for purchase at the Sugar Store.
