(BEDFORD) - 40-year-old Jeffery Porter, of Mitchell, who entered a plea of guilty to rape in Lawrence County Superior Court I, was sentenced to house arrest.
Porter was arrested in September 2010 by Indiana State Police after Porter's co-worker reported Porter had raped her in her home.
According to ISP Sgt. Curt Durnil, Porter was at the woman's home, where he had his horses boarded and was watering them on September 17, 2010.
Police say Porter wanted the woman to have sex with him and when she refused and turned to leave, Porter, became angry and followed the woman, knocked her down and dragged her into the house where he forced himself on her.
The woman told police Porter bit her on the back and got on top of her making it hard for her to breathe. In an attempt to get away, she hit Porter several times with a paint can, making Porter angrier.
That is when the woman felt her only option was to do what Porter wanted or she would be killed.
After the incident, the woman went to a friend's home and then to the Mitchell Police department and then the hospital.
As part of the plea agreement, Porter would plead guilty to rape and a charge of criminal confinement would be dismissed. Porter was sentenced to eight years at the Indiana Department of Corrections and given credit for 31 days served with five years of that sentence suspended to probation.
Porter was placed on three years electronic monitoring in lieu of jail. He must pay $100 to the public defender as well as $166 in court costs and any restitution of medical care/therapy of victim.
Porter was added to the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry.
