(MITCHELL) - The theme for this year’s 67th Annual Persimmon Festival is “Mitchell Athletics - Past, Present and Future”.
This year's festival is set for September 21-28.
Organizer Lori Quebbeman says the theme will recognize Mitchell athletes and coaches - past, present and future - in the parade, which will wind through the streets of Mitchell beginning at 2 p.m. on Sept. 28.
Terry Cole, a past Mitchell football great who went on to play football at Indiana University and in the NFL, will be recognized and represented by some of his family members in the parade."
The Persimmon Festival is organized by a three-person committee that includes Quebbeman and her co-chairwomen, Christina Lambton and Teresa Reynolds. Gary Rayhill will again serve as the chairman of the parade.
Quebbeman doesn't expect the coming festival to be filled with changes, but is excited about the entertainment that will fill the Main Street Stage throughout the week.
The Hunter Smith Band on the Main Street Stage, a band out of the Indianapolis area who performs rock, country and pop will perform. The band is led by Hunter Smith, a retired football player who was the punter for the Indianapolis Colts."
Quebbeman is in her third year of helping to organize the Persimmon Festival. She works in the accounting department at C&M Conveyor and serves as an assistant coach for both track and cross country at MHS.
