(ENGLISH) - According to State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson’s office, the trailer fire that killed five people last week in rural Crawford County was accidentally sparked by a wood stove used to heat the home.
State fire investigators worked with the Leavenworth Fire Department and the English Fire Department to determine the cause of the fatal mobile home fire at 1325 East Denton Road near English.
The victims were the trailer's owner, John "Jay" Denton, 32; his daughter Kara, 8; his girlfriend Dee Rodgier, 34; her son Curtis Rodgier, 3; and Denton's brother Billy Turben, 35.
Crawford County Coroner Wayne Bullington said all five died of smoke inhalation.
The 14 First Savings Bank branches in Southern Indiana are accepting donations to Checks also can be mailed to the Clarksville branch, 501 E. Lewis and Clark Parkway.
The money will be used to help pay for the funerals and other expenses for the victims.
Checks should be made payable to the Denton Memorial Fund.
