(WASHINGTON) - Redistricting was the topic of a rare joint meeting in Washington.
The Washington City Council and Daviess County Commissioner along with Daviess County Clerk Sheri Healy met in a special session and discussed the issue.
According to 2010 Census Data, state law requires Washington to redistrict the five city council districts.
The change was needed because the census revealed that Washington was faced with a 43% difference in the populations of the largest and smallest City Council Districts.
After much discussion, City Councilman Blake Chambers moved to move precinct 12 into Council District 2, the other city precincts will remain in their current districts.
The plan was approved and meets the goal of not splitting precincts.
