(BEDFORD) - Members of the Boy Scouts of America’s Venturing program, aimed at developing boys and girls into young adults, are raising funds locally by selling packages of fire starters.
The crew from Troop No. 333 will be selling the packages each Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the weekly fish fry at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Bedford. Packages contain 12 fire starters and sell for $3 each. Each starter burns for about 10 minutes.
If you've never heard of the program, Venturing is a youth development program for young men and women who are ages 14 to 21. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.
Venturing provides the skills needed for young adults to make ethical choices, experience a fun program full of adventure and challenges, acquire leadership skills and to take advantage of opportunities to advance their skills and knowledge in the areas of high adventure, sports, arts, hobbies and religious life.
The local club meets on the first and third Sunday of every month at 5 p.m. at the K of C Hall for those interested in joining.
For more information on the program, or to find out about the fire starters, contact leaders Walt and Lorri Shearin at 583-7332 or 583-6209.
