(BEDFORD) - Bob Dillon, Lawrence County Project Coordinator told the county council Tuesday night that work on Dunn Bridge will begin on Monday.
CLR will replace the support beams, form and pour and do the finish work on the deck of bridge 75 on Dunn Bridge Road, northwest of Heltonville.
Dillon says county crews will complete the other work. CLR bid $155,975 and the complete project will cost an estimated $206,000. Dillon asked the council to allow him to move funds from his accounts to pay for the project. They approved that request.
"This is something we will have to address because it will affect school bus routes," Dillon says. "I would also like to see the bridge alignment adjusted to make it straighter, to get rid of that center pillar that catches all kinds of debris from the river."
The bridge was lowered from a 12 ton weight restriction to 6 tons after the bridge inspection showed the beams were starting to buckle.
In other business, Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig asked the council to replace two jailers that are retiring.
"One has retired and another's last day will be April 1," Craig says.
Highway Superintendent David Holmes asked the council to allow him to hire a new street employee, because Donnie Fleetwood is retiring on April 19.
The council approved both Craig and Holmes the requests to hire employees.
