(NEEDMORE) - Firefighters from Marshall, Oolitic, Perry and Indian Creek Volunteer Fire Departments battled a blaze that destroyed a home in the 1300 block of Trogdon Lane Sunday morning.
Calls started coming into the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department around 6:50 a.m.
According to Marshall Fire Chief Chad Hayes, the one-story home with an attached garage was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
"A passerby noticed the fire and called 911 and then stopped and beat on the door waking the occupants," Hayes says. "The four adults and two teens were all able to get out unharmed."
Hayes says the home is owned by Teresa Sanders and is rented by Tammy Skeen and her family.
"The homeowner has insurance, but the renters do not," Hayes says.
Oolitic, Perry and Indian Creek VFDs were on the scene until 11:15 pm.
"Marshall firefighters stayed on the scene until after 4 pm assisting the State Fire Marshal and putting out hot spots," Hayes says.
The home was destroyed.
"We have not at this time determined what caused the blaze and are still putting it all together and waiting for the state fire marshal's report," Hayes says. "We have not made a final determination yet."
Hayes says no one was injured while battling the blaze.
IU Health ambulance crew and TOPES was on the scene providing assistants.
