(BEDFORD) - The Fitness Challenge 5K has been reincarnated as the Lions Club Fitness Challenge 5K and is slated for Saturday morning starting at the old start/finish line at Englewood School.
Race director Dr. Jim Sowders says the Bedford Lions Club was looking for a good charity endeavor for its Blessings in a Backpack program, and the race seemed like the way to go.
The Blessings in a Backpack program helps to feed underprivileged kids over the weekend. The program is conducted through LIFE Food Pantry.
The course will be the same as the former Fitness Challenge 5K, starting on Washington Avenue, winding through the Industrial Park area and around Hillcrest Circle before returning to Englewood School.
Registration will be from 6 to 7:50 a.m., with the 5K taking off at 8. The free kids races will follow.
