(BLOOMINGTON) - Two southern Indiana egg farms have donated more than 100,000 fresh eggs to a Bloomington food bank that serves more than 90 agencies in several counties.
Rose Acre Farms donated more than 34,000 eggs Wednesday and Wabash Valley Produce donated more than 65,000 last week to Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
Food Bank Executive Director Julio Alonso tells The Herald-Times the donations were particularly beneficial to the bank because they are a source of high-quality protein. He says high-protein foods are among the most important products the food bank can provide to their agencies and their clients.
Alonso predicts that the donated eggs will be gone in two weeks.
More than 7,500 south-central Indiana residents receive food assistance each week from agencies the Hoosier Hills Food Bank supports.
