(SALEM) - A Washington County teen was among four involved in a rollover crash Wednesday evening. Seats belts are being credited for saving the teens from very serious injuries or worse.
Washington County Deputy Joe Keltner says, the crash sent all four to area hospitals, including one by air ambulance, but all were treated and have been released. Keltner says the crash was caused by excessive speed.
The driver, 19-year-old Brandon Matlock, of New Albany, was driving a 1999 Toyota Rav 4 on Dutch Creek Road when he made a slight right turn to enter a bridge. Keltner says the drive must veer slightly left as they exit the bridge, and that is when the vehicle went airborne causing Matlock to lose control. The Rav slid sideways, went off the roadway, hit three trees and rolled over twice.
Matlock suffered a fractured forearm and was flown from the scene to University of Louisville Hospital. His passengers, 17-year-old William Matlock, of New Albany, suffered multiple lacerations; 18-year-old Jonathan Stone, of Pekin, suffered multiple bruises and abrasions, and 17-year-old Erin Risinger, of New Albany, who had a broken finger and minor abrasions.
