(BLOOMINGTON) - A Bloomington High School South senior is one of two Hoosier State Press Association Foundation scholarship winners.
Hannah Alani won the small school division for students in schools with enrollment of less than 2,000 students. The scholarships were given to high school seniors planning to major in print journalism.
A student from Chesterton High School won in the large school division.
Alani is co-editor-in-chief of South's newspaper, is a student columnist for The Herald-Times and an intern for InStride magazine, and has spoken in front of the MCCSC school board in support of student media rights.
As a scholarship winner, she will receive $1,500, which can be used for books, tuition, fees, housing and other college-related expenses. In addition to winning a scholarship, Alani was the runner-up for the IHSPA student journalist of the year award.
Although Alani's plans after high school are not final, she might attend Indiana University.
Whatever college she attends, Alani said she will continue to pursue her passion for journalism.
