Heartworm Testing Dates

Last updated on Tuesday, March 19, 2013

(BEDFORD) - Several Lawrence County veterinarians are offering heartworm testing at a reduced rate from April 1-6.

A mild winter from a year ago led to a larger insect population, which resulted in more cases of heartworm in the county.

Heartworm is treatable, but the treatment is very expensive.

The heartworm test is simple and quick. The veterinarian draws a small amount of blood and the results are available soon after.

Participating vets in the heartworm clinic are Spring Mill Veterinary Service on Ind. 60, Bedford Veterinary Medical Centre on Oolitic Road and Animal Care Clinic on Mitchell Road.

Pet owners can also mark their calendars for the upcoming county-wide rabies clinics. Sponsored by the Lawrence County Health Department, the clinics are set for April 22-26.
