(BEDFORD) - Jasmine Singh placed second at the Ford Moto Co. Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee finals in Louisville Saturday.
She was beat on a German word. She couldn't remember what the word was, but it had something to do with drumming.
Emily Keaton, of Pikeville, Ky. won the event and received $10,000. She was also the 2010 and 2011 champion.
The competition was held in the PNC Club at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Six-eight students competed for the title.
Jasmine, 12, attends Shawswick Middle School for two classes and who is home schooled, was happy with her finish.
Jasmine won a trophy, a certificate and a $5,000 savings bond,a dictionary, the game of Scrabble and a $25 Amazon gift card.
Jasmine is the daughter of Archana and Dr. Pratap Singh. Her little sister Ayesha helped her study for the competition.
The Singh family was going to celebrate Jasmine's win by going out to dinner.
