(JASONVILLE) - Jasonville Mayor Roy Terrell, Sr., appointed Justin Disney to lead the city’s volunteer fire department.
Halea Franklin of the Greene County Daily World reports that Disney, a 1996 graduate of Shakamak High School, is currently employed as a fire fighter at NSA Crane.
"I'm just thankful to be given the opportunity by the mayor and the city to serve in this capacity. We have a great group of firefighters, and I look forward to seeing what we can do together," Disney said.
He started his firefighting career in 1996 as a volunteer at Lewis Township Fire Department. He joined the Air Force and trained as Crash/Fire/Rescue. He has previous experience on Jasonville's department, as he was a member from 2008-2010. In addition, he has experience as an EMT.
Disney was selected from a list of qualified applicants, Terrell said.
"He had previously served on the department as a training officer and is currently employed at Crane, where he maintains the rank of captain on their fire department. Justin has wealth of knowledge and training to bring to the department," Terrell said. "I am looking forward to working with him and other members of the department as we make this transition. I hope the residents of the city will join me in welcoming him back to the department and will give him and the department their support."
Disney replaces Harold "Pude" Keller who retired from the department Feb. 14. Keller logged more than 30 years on the department. He assumed the role of chief in March 2003.
"We certainly appreciate the many years of dedicated service that Chief Keller has provided to the city and wish him the best in his retirement," Terrell said.
