(MITCHELL) - The Lawrence County Drug Task Force along with the departments K-9 units and detectives discovered more than 200 marijuana plants in a home and barn in the 1900 block of Stonington Road in Mitchell, Thursday night.
Sheriff Sam Craig says officers received a tip about the marijuana grow operating and obtained a search warrant after the task force went to the home and smelled the odor of marijuana.
When officers entered the home they found a small growing operation hid behind a gun case that contained 20 starter plants and then in a bedroom officers found another 30 marijuana plants, a lighting system and chemicals to help grow the plants.
When officers searched the barn they found a pretty sophisticated operation, complete with a watering system, several chemicals to grow the plants and 130 plants in various stages of growth," Craig says.
During their search officers also found drug paraphernalia used to consume marijuana.
Two people were arrested they were: 58-year-old Ronald Welch, of Mitchell, who was charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana over 30 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a common nuisance. 19-year-old Joshua Yarbrough, of Mitchell, who was also at the home, was charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and visiting a common nuisance.
Craig says charges on a third person are pending.
