(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Superintendent Steve Phillips says residents, students, business owners and taxpayers can express their views on closing the high school campus during a forum Tuesday.
The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mitchell High School Auditorium. There will be some opening remarks and then the public will be able to address their concerns.
Mitchell High School currently has an open campus during lunch period. High school students can leave the school grounds for lunch, and many do to eat at home or visit local businesses. But the open campus situation has been blamed for a number of problems including disciplinary problems like fights and attendance issues when students do not return to class.
The campus is open because the kitchen and cafeteria area is not large enough to accommodate all of the students in the combined junior-senior high school building. But a planned renovation, which is to start next month, would change that.
