(PAOLI) - Vic Combs, Paoli School Superintendent will retire this summer after nearly 50 years in education.
Bill McDonald, Paoli school board president, credits Combs with steering the school corporation through many changes, particularly the new school budgeting processes and property tax caps.
Like many schools systems, Paoli has had to deal with declining revenues in recent years. The board is impressed with Comb's leadership they have asked him to help lead the search process for his successor.
Combs says the opening has been posted at various universities and education job sites. He's hoping the board can make a decision so the new person can start July 1.
Combs will celebrate his 70th birthday this summer, and McDonald says Combs' decision to retire did not come as a surprise, even though he had two years remaining on his contract.
Combs has been a teacher, coach, guidance director, school testing specialist, assistant high school principal, elementary school principal, high school principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent in his tenure.
He's been with the Paoli schools 22 years. He came to Paoli from Lebanon.
