(BEDFORD) - The next event in the Lawrence County Concert Association series will feature professionals demonstrating their tap-dancing abilities as well as 13 local young people getting in on the act.
Roger Moon of the Times-Mail reports Tthat "TAP -- The Show" will come to the Bedford North Lawrence High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. March 16 as the third of four concerts in the 2012-2013 season. At 6:45 that evening, lobby entertainment will feature a local group organized by Kathy Thompson, owner of Kat's Performing Arts Studio and a member of the LCCA board of directors.
"We have four or five numbers that will be performed," Thompson said. "One of those four or five will be the entire group."
Thompson announced auditions a few weeks ago, specifying that dancers of all ages were welcome to get involved. The group that ultimately formed ended up being school-age participants, but Thompson said it represents a good mix of students from ages 7 through 17. They are Vonya Girgis, Elizabeth Lee, Isabella Marshall, Sherissa Minshall, Ava Sanchez, McKinzie Wigley, Aubry Wynn, Molly Patton, Sarah Gaither, Alexis Kern, Nicole Taflinger, Bailey Foster and Brandi Stephenson.
In discussing the main attraction for the evening, LCCA President Charles Edwards promised audiences will be entertained.
He said the show is "a powerhouse production, celebrating, in a big way, the artistry of tap dance around the globe."
The show was the winner of the 2010 Heartbeat Award (the top honor of the of the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions).
A further description of the show, as provided by Edwards, explains that the performers take audiences "on a journey through everything from Broadway and Big Band to world music and pop rock."
Included will be recreations of numbers by such time-honored dancers as Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
The show, a Mat Davenport Production, is booked through Live Onstage, and Charles said the community will welcome Live Onstage's vice president of operations Lou Spoltore to Bedford for the show.
"He will be on hand to help us introduce the show and talk a little bit about this award-winning show," Charles said.
Those who are not LCCA season subscribers are welcome to attend the show. The cost for a ticket will be $20 at the door.
The final event for the concert season will be on April 19 and will be a performance by Blair Carman.
