(FRENCH LICK) - Some of the rarest, most elegant and historic collector cars from across the country will be showcased on the beautiful grounds of West Baden Springs Hotel, October 4-6.
The Louisville Concours d'Elegance will bring together top exhibitors, seasoned judges and enthusiastic sponsors to celebrate the "competition of elegance" -- and to raise money for Kosair Children's Hospital.
After being held at Churchill Downs for the past five years, the event is moving to its new home French Lick Resort in Southern Indiana. The 3,000 acre resort, which features two historic hotels, four golf courses, a pair of world-class spas and more, will be the site for the full schedule of weekend activities.
Being the epitome of authenticity and originality, West Baden Springs Hotel is an ideal fit for hosting this incredible automotive affair that brings top collectors and judges together to celebrate the motorcar," said Kim Gray, Director of Marketing.
The featured marque is The Packard, a luxury line built by the Packard Motor Car Company of Detroit, Michigan, and later by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation of South Bend, Indiana. The world-class Louisville Concours d'Elegance will also feature everything from micro cars to open wheel racing cars, with a mix of American and European classics. (See full list of classes below.) Nomination forms are available online or by contacting Lindsey Neely with Children's Hospital Foundation, LINDSEY.NEELY@nortonhealthcare.org.
As the name implies, elegance is key to winning a Louisville Concours d'Elegance trophy. To turn heads here, a vehicle must not only be fully operational, but it also must possess an historical value, such as innovative styling, technology or literally a winning record on the track. Over 125 different cars will be chasing the coveted "Best in Show" with additional awards going to the "Best in Class" and specialty categories.
The competition takes place on Sunday, October 6 but an entire weekend of activities is planned including an exclusive Welcome Reception, Scenic Driving Tour, "Kids & Cars Tent" and more.
Guests are invited to experience the resort's heyday during a Great Gatsby Gala on Saturday, October 5 to benefit Kosair Children's Hospital. The world-famous atrium will be transformed into a Prohibition-era soiree that will feel like a page straight out of the American classic-- complete with big band music, art deco-inspired decor and a lavish three-course meal. Costumes encouraged.
Special room rates and Louisville Concours d'Elegance packages are available at West Baden Springs and French Lick Springs Hotels. When making reservations, please mention the Louisville Concours d'Elegance and provide the following group code: 1013CHN.
Kosair Children's Hospital
The 2013 Louisville Concours d'Elegance will benefit pediatric oncology initiatives at Kosair Children's Hospital. As part of a $15 million fundraising effort, proceeds will be used to recruit clinical and research leaders, expand important regional patient care research and build new outpatient facilities. Kosair Children's is Kentucky's only full-service, free-standing pediatric hospital; and the oldest continually accredited children's oncology facility--since 1959.
From heart and bone marrow transplants, complex neurosurgery, cancer treatment, trauma care and complex neonatal care to the more common broken bones, asthma attacks, outpatient surgeries and diagnostic tests, Kosair Children's Hospital is a beacon of hope for so many children and their families and worthy recipient of the revenue from this event.
