(BEDFORD) - A Bedford boy was saved from storm drain Thursday afternoon.
Police received a call reporting the boy was in the storm drain in the 1900 block of 11th Street at 3:25 pm.
According to Bedford Fire Department Battalion Chief Ken Teague the boy, around 9-years-old was playing with some friends and they all had went into the storm drain. The other boys left, leaving him behind.
"He was really scared and didn't know how to get out," Teague says. "Bedford police officers were all ready on the scene when we arrived."
Bedford Police Capt. Jeremy Bridges was able to reach down into the drain and pull the boy to safety.
"The boy was not injured, just scared," Teague says. "He was pretty far down the drain and it was a long reach for the officer."
It is unclear exactly how the boys got into the storm drain.
The Bedford Utilities Department has since sealed the drain the boys entered preventing further incidents like this one.
