(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Recovery Engagement Center opened April 1 in Bedford.
Known as "the REC," it is supported by Centerstone as a clearinghouse of information, support, and resources for individuals coping with addiction and substance abuse issues. Partnering with Families Forever, formerly Fathers Forever, it is at 1129 16th St. in Town Square Plaza, across the street from the Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce office.
"Recovery engagement centers," said Centerstone Recovery coach and Lawrence County Recovery Engagement Center organizer Kenny Bundy, "are volunteer-driven, where people can connect with others and get the care and resources they want to enhance their recovery and prevent relapse."
Community involvement has already been high, with participants of Recovery Matters, a group that met to discuss recovery issues this past fall, participating in discussions on the vision for the Lawrence County Recovery Engagement Center.
So far the Lawrence County Recovery Engagement Center has 22 trained volunteers. More volunteer trainings are scheduled to occur every other month. The center is open on Tuesdays from noon to 4 p.m.; Thursdays from 6-10 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
