Conservation Officers To Increase Patrols For Little 500

Last updated on Monday, April 15, 2013

(BLOOMINGTON) - Indiana Conservation Officers in operational district 6 will begin increasing patrols around Monroe Reservoir in preparation for the upcoming Little 500 festivities.

Public Relations Lieutenant William Browne stated, "Every spring people take to the outdoors for fun and relaxation which can cause for unintended accidents where people are injured if certain safety measures aren't followed."

Every April, hundreds of young adults travel to Lake Monroe to celebrate Indiana University's Little 500 on or around the water. Indiana Conservation Officers will begin increasing patrols the week leading up to the race on April 20th.

Officers will be patrolling by water and land to ensure that all are celebrating in a safe way. Officers encourage the students to have a good time, but to remember to be safe especially when on the water and leaving the Reservoir and traveling back to campus.

"It is our primary mission to encourage outdoor activities as a safe and viable recreational pursuit for the citizens of Indiana, but we also want to ensure that all citizens are doing this in a manner that abides by the law and promotes personal safety", stated Lt. William Browne.
