(BEDFORD) - The Lawrence County Council Tuesday night voted to allow several county agencies to hire new employees.
County Clerk Myron Rainey requested to hire a temporary part-time employee to replace Rose Cummings who is out on leave. The position will be filled by Kaci Hall.
Probation Director Nedra Fleetwood requested to hire a full-time ADAPT director. The position is currently held by Wanda Harper, who will be leaving to fill a position in the county's drug court program.
Director of Lawrence County Veterans Services Brad Bough requested to hire a part-time assistant. Stanley Richardson who currently holds the position has resigned.
In other business:
* Lawrence County Coroner Rob Herr requested an additional appropriation of $5,100 to cover the cost of utility bills and labor for cleaning the facility after an autopsy or tissue procurement procedure.
"I am estimating it will cost about $3,600 to cover the utility bills and estimating handling 30 post exams at the facility at a $50 cleaning fee per exam," Herr added.
The council granted the request.
* Prosecutor Michelle Woodward requested approval to transfer $4198.84 from her departments pre-trial diversion account to the victims assistance account to pay an employee's salary. The request was granted.
* Emergency Management Director Valerie Luchauer asked the county for an additional appropriation for the department's budget of $20,890. County Auditor Jody Edwards says the department has the money in their budget but it must be moved into another line item to comply with state regulations. The request was granted.
* Edwards requested an additional appropriation for the courthouse lease and rental funds of $76,000. Edwards explained that the money was in the budget but must be moved to another line items ; per state guidelines, to account for the county using two offices in St. Vincent Dunn Memorial Hospital Plaza for the Lawrence County Public Defender's Office and the new Lawrence County Morgue. The request was granted.
