(WASHINGTON) - Elaine Wellman was elected to the position of Daviess County Treasurer at a meeting of the caucus of the Daviess County Republican precinct chairmen Saturday.
Wellman fills the vacancy left by the death of Martin Mumaw III.
Mumaw, who passed away March 20, was re-elected in November. Wellman took her oath of office Monday.
In a press release, Wellman said she was looking forward to working with the staff in the Treasurer's office and to continue to serving the citizens of Daviess County.
Wellman previously served two terms as Clerk-Treasurer for the City of Washington. Prior to that, she had worked in the Clerk and Recorder's offices in the Court House.
Wellman serves on the Boards of Directors of the Daviess County Community Foundation and Senior & Family Services and was recently elected President of the Heartbeat of Washington merchants association. She is a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and is married to Joe Wellman. They have three daughters and five grandchildren with a sixth expected in August.
