(BEDFORD) - Bedford Fire Department firefighters extinguished a fire at a duplex in the 1500 block of O Street Saturday at 5:28 pm.
According to Chief John Wagner, no one was home when the fire started, but firefighters were able to save one of the families cat but were unable to revive a dog.
The fire started in the lower level in a room on the northwest side of the duplex.
"The fire was contained to that room," Wagner says. "There was significant damage to that room, and slight smoke and heat damage to the upper level of the duplex."
After the fire was extinguished firefighter ventilated the smoke from the duplex.
"The fire started in that lower room," Wagner says. "The cause of the fire is still under investigation."
Firefighters were on the scene until 7:20 pm.
