(UNDATED) - Though it’s trending downward, as it has for the past 20 years, teen pregnancy is still an issue in Indiana, and you might be surprised at where.
Bill Stancykiewicz, the President and CEO of the Indiana Youth Institute says Hamilton, Porter, Johnston and Hendricks, have some of the lowest teen pregnancy rates in the state and in the country.
However Lawrence, Knox and Cass have some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the state. Some of the factors that may put a teen at risk for pregnancy include abuse, both physical, and sexual.
A recent study shows girls who have been mistreated were twice as likely to have a baby, which led researchers to conclude that curbing abuse could easily curb teen pregnancy.
