(AUSTIN) - A Washington County native is accused of stabbing his estranged wife at least four times, leaving her in critical condition.
Stephanie Taylor Ferriell of the Leader-Democrat reports that Charles "Ross" Blankenbaker is at University of Louisville Hospital, where he was taken after Washington County authorities located him. He had a stab wound to the chest.
24-year-old Tara Blankenbaker, also formerly of Washington County is a patient at U of L where she was flown by air ambulance. The stabbing happened at Tara's grandparents' home in Austin last Thursday.
Tara had reportedly been staying there with the couple's two children for about two weeks.
According to police, Ross came to the home to talk to his estranged wife. She then allegedly went for a ride with him. When they returned, police say Tara took the couple's two children ages 2 and 4 to a back bedroom and then invited Ross to join them. That is when the situation escalated.
Tara's grandparents then heard screams from the two small children and ran to the room where they found Tara in a pool of blood. She had been stabbed four times.
Ross left the home and was later found in Washington County. He had a stab wound, possibly self-inflicted, and was flown to U of L for treatment.
Scott County authorities say they expect to charge him in the stabbing this week.
