(SHOALS) - The Martin County Sheriff is urging the public to be aware of phone scams that try to get your money with the claim of false prizes.
Within the past six months, a bogus company has been focusing on Martin County residents to scam money from innocent victims.
The caller says you have won a large amount of cash and that you need to visit a store and purchase a debit card to claim your winnings.
They say they will be at your house on a certain day with your winnings if you give them the number on the debit card.
The scammers then drain the debit card.
Police say never give personal information out over the phone and remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it's probably a scam.
