(MITCHELL) - The county’s first edible book contest will come to the Mitchell Community Public Library Monday.

The highest scores in four categories will receive prizes.

Entries must be submitted between noon and 4 p.m. Monday. People can view all the entries between 4-6 p.m. and celebrate with the winners at 6 p.m.

For details and contest rules, contact the library at 849-2412 or info@mitchell.lib.in.us.
The event is co-sponsored by the Mitchell Community Public library and the North Lawrence Career Center.

Free comics

Stop by the library on May 4 to celebrate free comic book day. The library will be handing out free issues of popular titles for all ages and while you're at the library check-out our collection of graphic novels for children and adults.

Bags of books

The Friends of the Library organization is hosting a bag sale during April. Visit the library to pick up books, movies, and magazines -- all for just $2 per bag.

Homeschool

The Homeschool Cultural Series meets for the final time this spring at 1 p.m. April 26. Staff and doctoral students from Indiana University will lead an interactive program using objects from the Mathers Museum collection.

The Homeschool Art Series will meet at 1 p.m. April 19. Youths in grades K-12 will learn portraiture art from Dutch masters, and then paint self-portraits. No registration is required. Play clothes are encouraged. This program is made possible by the National Gallery of Art.

Volunteer help

Teenagers who love crafts, technology, and books are invited to become library volunteers.

The Mitchell Community Public Library engages teens in highly social, job-transferable skills such as video creation, decorating, book performance, and more.

Children ages 8-11 may volunteer with a parent/guardian present; teenagers ages 12-18 may volunteer with parental permission. Call the library for more details.
