(EAST OOLITIC) - An early morning fire destroyed a single-wide home Tuesday morning on Murdock Station Road and Lawrence County Police and the state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.
The home located at 45 Murdock Station Road had been vacant for several years and there was no power to the trailer.
According to Donnie Davis, who lives on Meridian Road, there was a loud explosion and then the fire. Meridian Road is two road west from where the trailer is located. Davis says there are rumors there was a meth lab inside of the trailer that exploded.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says his detectives are looking into the cause of the fire and have interviewed several residents in the neighborhood.
"We are currently waiting on the results from the state fire marshal's investigating and should know more soon," Craig says.
Volunteer firefighters from Oolitic, Marshall and Shawswick fire departments were called to the scene just after 6 am.
When firefighters arrived they found the trailer engulfed in flames and smoke bellowing into the sky.
