(BEDFORD) - The rear entrance to the Courthouse Plaza on 16th Street is now closed.
Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig says the courthouses are going through a security change.
"This is being done in reference to the study done by the Indiana Judicial Center in Indianapolis," Craig added.
The study was published in 2011 that found the security was lacking at both the courthouse and courthouse plaza.
One change is the back door of the plaza building will now be closed to the public.
"Only employees will be allowed to use that entrance," Craig says.
Those visiting the courthouse plaza will go through a security check point and their bags will be scanned for illegal items like weapons. Cell phones allowed in the building, but not in the courtrooms.
