(MITCHELL) - A woman scared off a burglar after she fired a gun two shots into the air Thursday morning.
According to Lawrence County Police, the woman was at home on Cody Road when someone began banging on her front door.
"He was being aggressive while knocking and she didn't know the man so she didn't answer the door," says Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig. "That is when she went and got her gun and loaded it."
The man was wearing a Carhart jacket, a ball cap turned backwards and a yellow shirt.
"The knocking stopped and the woman thought the man had left, so she began looking around from the inside of the house to see if she could see him and that is when the man entered through a side door," Craig says.
The woman yelled at the man telling him to leave her home.
"The man then fled out the door and that is when she stepped out and fired two shots into the air," Craig says.
The man lost a shoe as he was fleeing.
The man jumped into a silver, possible Ford Escort.
Lawrence County Police searched the area but were unable to find the man or the vehicle.
"This is a prime example on why, even if you are home, you should always keep your home secure," Craig says. "Lock the doors and if a resident feels threatened or believes there is a problem they should call police right away."
Anyone with information about the man or vehicle is asked to call the Lawrence County Police Department.
