(HAYESVILLE) - One person was in a crash on U.S. 231 just north of Water Tower Road Tuesday morning.
According to Indiana State Police Master Trooper Scott Miller the accident happened at 7:06 a.m.
Miller says 26-year-old Jessica L. Neal, of Loogootee was traveling south on U.S. 231 in her 1999 Pontiac when the vehicle she was following suddenly slowed.
Neal applied her brakes to avoid hitting that vehicle and slid sideways coming to stop partially blocking the northbound lanes.
She was able to avoid hitting that vehicle however a 2011 Chevrolet pick-up driven by 35-year-old Aron P. Kelly, of Leopold, was traveling north and tried to swerve to miss Neal's Pontiac but was unable to. The two vehicles sideswiped each other.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Neal was not injured however Kelly was transported to Jasper Memorial for treatment on non-life threatening injuries.
"It was raining very hard at the time of the crash and it is unknown at this time why the vehicle in front of Ms. Neal suddenly slowed," Miller says.
Neal was cited for speed to fast to avoid collision.
"Remember speed limits are made for ideal conditions and anytime there are less than ideal conditions i.e. rain, snow, fog etc. drivers need to remember to slow down," he added.
Assisting at the scene were officers from Martin County Sheriff's Office and Loogootee and firefighters from Haysville Fire Departments
