(BEDFORD) - 20-year-old Evan Sipes, of Bedford, was arrested after he came to the Lawrence County Police Department early Monday morning and began beating on the doors and windows in the upstairs lobby.
Sipes was arrested and charged with criminal confinement, intimidation with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by force.
Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley says while Lawrence County officers detained Sipes at the jail, officers went to a residence in the 600 block of J Street to check on a woman that Sipes had gotten into an altercation with.
"Officers found her at 15th and J streets," Parsley says. "She told police Mr. Sipes held pointed a knife at her and wanted her to perform sexual acts with him."
The woman told police that Sipes had come to her home and passed out on the floor. About 10 minutes later Sipes woke and confronted the woman with the knife and wanted her to perform sexual acts with him.
Parsley says the woman refused and that is when Sipes refused to let the woman leave.
"He told her she was locked in and wasn't going anywhere," Parsley added.
Eventually the woman was able to leave and that is when Sipes went to the Sheriff's Department to tell police he had been in a fight with the woman.
"Because Sipes was intoxicated, officers took him to St. Vincent Dunn Hospital to be checked out," Parsley says. "That is when Sipes became abusive and aggressive with officers and hospital staff."
After being treated, Sipes was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
