(BLOOMINGTON) - The City’s second annual Lemonade Day Bloomington celebration will take place on May 18 at venues across Bloomington and Monroe County.
Lemonade Day Bloomington is a free program that teaches young entrepreneurs how to plan, start and operate their own businesses in the form of a lemonade stand. Young entrepreneurs keep the money they earn and are encouraged to spend some, save some and share some of their profits.
During last year's Lemonade Day celebration, 216 young entrepreneurs in Monroe County operated lemonade stands with their mentors, averaging $205 in individual profits. The City encourages community members to support young entrepreneurs and their goal of donating $5,000 to charity by visiting a local stand on May 18. Participating stands can be found at http://bloomington.lemonadeday.org/stands/.
The program's motto - "Build a stand, Spark a dream!" - expresses Lemonade Day Bloomington's main objectives: to encourage young people, through the experience of operating lemonade stands, to learn entrepreneurship, build their financial literacy and trust in their ability to make a difference in their own lives and in their community.
Lemonade Day Bloomington is presented by Cook Medical and is made possible by the generous support of many other community sponsors and partners including the City of Bloomington, Monroe County, the Ivy Tech Cook Center for Entrepreneurship, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington.
