(BEDFORD) - The first part of the International Bowhunting Organization’s National Championship Triple Crown begins today through Sunday at the Lawrence County 4-H Fairgrounds in Bedford.
It's an event that Bedford's White River Bowhunters has sponsored for 28 years, according to Harold Gregory, a member of the bowhunter group who helps with the national event that had 1,300 participants last year.
Activities at the three-day event are not just for the competitors. There will be archery shoots set up for youth and people with disabilities, as well as vendors showing all types of bows and related equipment.
On Saturday, there's a shoot from 1-4 p.m. for people with physical disabilities, and there's a future bowhunters shoot for children, with an awards ceremony afterward.
Vendors will fill the expo building at the fairgrounds. Booths are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
After the competition, conducted Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the bowhunters will travel to Pennsylvania, then to Ohio for the third leg of the competition.
